Landscapes: Performing Space and Culture

A Graduate Conference by the Theatre History and Criticism Program Department of Theatre at University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign

April 5th and 6th 2013

“Landscapes: Performing Space & Culture” is the theme for the first interdisciplinary graduate conference organized by graduate students of the Theatre History & Criticism Program and the Theatre Student Organization at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. The conference will take place April 5-6, 2013 in the Asian American Cultural Center, Spurlock Museum and Krannert Center for the Performing Arts.  Areas of arts, humanities and social sciences are invited to explore the concept of landscapes as spatial and cultural sites with particular interest in elements that are theatrical and performative.

Graduate and undergraduate student panels will be held the Asian American Cultural Center on Friday from 2-5pm and Saturday from 9-4pm.

Keynote Panel and Discussion

Saturday, April 6, 2013 at 7pm, Knight Auditorium, Spurlock Museum

Join us for the culminating event of the conference, an evening of presentations and discussions with our esteemed guests: Heather S. Nathans (Department of Theatre, University of Maryland), Joshua Takano Chambers-Letson (Department of Performance Studies, Northwestern University), Jodi Byrd (American Indian Studies Program and Department of English, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign) and Dianne Harris (Director of the Illinois Program for Research in the Humanities and Departments of Landscape Architecture, Architecture, Art History, and History, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign). The discussion moderator will be Valleri Hohman (Department of Theatre, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign).
